IIT Hyderabad join hands with Mr Rajesh Mashruwala, an Executive Vice President at
TIBCO Software Inc and one of the Co-founders of Center for Healthcare
Entrepreneurship (CfHE), IIT Hyderabad to announce the CfHE VAGBHATA CHAIR
PROFESSORSHIP IN MEDICAL DEVICES AND DIAGNOSTICS
Medical Devices and Diagnostics is one of the key areas of healthcare where a huge gap
exists in supply of devices, trained manpower and indigenous development. With a
vision for Atma Nirbhar bharat and Make in India, the department of Biomedical
Engineering@ Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad have taken bold steps in
addressing this gap through Focused programs in Medical Devices, Development of
manpower and Promotion of start-ups for indigenous development of medical devices
and innovations. The Center of Excellence established in partnership with Medical
Devices Mission Secretariat, ICMR has enabled IIT Hyderabad to be one of the Hubs for
technological Excellence in Medical Devices in India. In response to the call from
Professor B S Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, Mr Raj Mashruwala has come forward to
establish the Endowment Chair Professor position in the area of Medical devices and
Diagnostics to enrich, guide and lead our efforts in this area.
“Professor B S Murty envisions IITH to be one of the choicest destinations for faculty
and students who would like to pursue their career goals. This Chair Professorship will
be a golden opportunity for bringing eminent National and International faculty and
industry leaders to collaborate with the Department of Biomedical Engineering @ IIT
Hyderabad with a focused vision to strengthen this area, develop new courses and
programs and to attract new faculty, visiting faculty, international grants etc.

Being and Entrepreneur and Angel Investor, Raj Mashruwala is deeply passionate
about contributing back to the Indian Medical and health technology Ecosystem.
Along with Avi Nash Manudhane, he established the Center for Healthcare
Entrepreneurship (CfHE) at IIT Hyderabad for development of Innovative medical
Devices and start-ups. With this Chair Professorship, Raj Mashruwala aims at
translating healthcare ideas like Noninvasive diagnostics, Point of Care devices and
clinical trials of portable devices to address the last mile in healthcare delivery to the
rural India in Medical Devices & Diagnostics and help accelerate our journey in become
world leaders in this field.
The Institute considers stalwarts in academics and industry for this chair professorship
@ IIT Hyderabad. The support from Institute will cover the activities related to
academics, travel, research, honorariums and other expenses for the chair professor to
visit IIT Hyderabad and engage in research and teaching activities. The term of a Chair
Professor will be for 3 years renewed on an annual basis. While talking to the media

Professor B S Murty urges the industry leaders and alumni to support similar positions
that will enable the students at IIT Hyderabad to work closely with International
experts, Universities and Medical device companies.

Rajesh Mashruwala (Raj) is an Executive Vice President at TIBCO Software Inc., a
leading provider of real-time infrastructure software for the Internet and enterprise. Raj
holds Master of Science (Engineering) from University of California, Berkeley (1976)
and Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
(1975). TIBCO Software founded in 1997, did its initial public offering in July of 1999
(TIBX). Since founding of TIBCO Software, Raj is responsible for worldwide engineering,
marketing, acquisitions and field operations. He is also an angel investor and partner
Emeritus at Prime Venture.
