Course Description:

This course is designed to equip paramedical staff with the operational and maintenance essentials of an IVF laboratory and operating theatre. Participants will gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in semen analysis, sperm preparation, cryopreservation, and surgical sperm retrieval procedures. The training covers essential tasks such as quality control, preparation of culture dishes, witnessing, record maintenance, cryotransports, and laboratory cleaning. Participants will also learn inventory management, monitoring of equipment, and maintaining consumable traceability to ensure seamless operations within the IVF unit.

Course Objectives:

  • Learn the basics of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and clean room discipline for ART units.
  • Develop skills in inventory management and lab order coordination.
  • Understand the basics of IVF ovarian stimulation and hormonal drugs.
  • Operate and maintain IVF incubators, including auto-sterilization and cleaning.
  • Use embryo-safe cleaning agents and prepare operating theatres for procedures.
  • Manage CO2/N2/mixed gas cylinders, gas supplies, and monitor lab equipment for temperature, gas concentration, and pH levels.
  • Instruct male partners on semen collection.
  • Understand power supply management for lab and OT equipment.
  • Follow checklists for IVF batch preparation and aseptic practices.
  • Safely handle and dispose of biohazardous waste material.
  • Maintain the cold chain and storage of medicinal drugs and thermolabile lab products.
  • Understand contingency planning and emergency response procedures.
