Catalysing and Leveraging Innovation in Medtech Biodesign (CLiMB) Program

Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has set up a Medical Device and Diagnostics Mission Secretariat (MDMS) as a flagship program of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), to foster indigenous manufacturing of medical devices and diagnostics and in turn decrease import dependency of India in this sector. Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) is the Program Management Agency for the MDMS Program.

Under MDMS an inter-institutional collaborative program, Catalysing and Leveraging Innovation in Medtech Biodesign (CLiMB) has been initiated for boosting medical device innovation in the country. The aim of this program is to focus on development of medical devices as per unmet needs of India through structured Biodesign process and follows the pattern of CfHE’s one year Healthcare Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program. CLiMB is being implemented at CfHE from 2020 through the fellowship program. In the year 2020 – ’21, 6 fellows underwent CLiMB program and in the current 2021 –’22 batch 7 fellows are enrolled as CLiMB program fellows.
